I’ve had pets all my life. Even going all the way back to 1918 my family were showing dogs. WOW! I didn’t know they had dog shows in those days. I think they were a bit different to todays shows though.
Boxers were my faves. The tremendous experience of whelping puppies, hand feeding, the terrible feeling losing some. This has given me so much empathy with other pet lovers. Then I went further and founded Boxer Rescue in Queensland saving some lives, and removing dogs from horrible owners. Living with animals all my life, as a part of my life, has made me lucky to be able to care for other people’s pets, as I care for mine. You know, that dream job you always dreamed about. I have it!
After training for many years with my cousin, the operator of Rockhampton’s premier boarding kennel, I established Bowhill Pet Resort in 1981. Starting from scratch, the land was cleared and new accommodation built. But it was a labour of love.
The original aim of our establishment was to provide “Above excellence Pet Care”. Thirty years on, that aim has not changed.
Because the boarding kennel industry is constantly changing and improving, I want to ensure that Bowhill Pet Resort remains a superior establishment with the very best training and information practices. Constant updating is very important.
As part of this process, I’ve attended international forums and training seminars to keep up to date with the latest methods of improving the quality of care provided to our guests. I’ve spent truckloads of hours with talented Vets who have helped me immensely with understanding animal wowes. I seem to have a natural knack of spotting something unusual out of the corner of my eye, and go check it out. I always feel happy if I have picked up a situation early with a guest, and have it solved before it becomes a major problem. Over the years there has been many a guest I am concerned about that has shared my bed, rather than spending the night in the kennels.
These days, even though I keep a careful daily eye on all our guests, it is my dedicated, well trained and caring team of enthusiasts that really delivers excellence and more in pet care. And it’s great for me. I can spend more time physically and mentally with our guests, rather than cleaning and feeding and all the other kennel chores.
I understand that to provide quality pet care requires a significant amount of dedication, and a total commitment to loving animals. Seven days a week, constantly, your pets are cared for, their needs met and most importantly loved in the same way as you love them.
